Human Trafficking

The Department of Justice defines human trafficking as a crime that involves compelling or coercing a person to provide labor or services, or to engage in commercial sex acts.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives calls and text messages from victims and concerned citizens. In 2021, Kentucky residents sent 353 signals related to human trafficking, with 133 coming from victims and survivors. Additionally, 155 trafficking cases were identified and confirmed, involving 189 victims. Sex trafficking was prevalent, with 89 cases associated with it. Notably, females are the most affected, with 95 victims being women compared to 19 males.
